To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony.

Sam's World and Some Pictures

Sam is at times wildly funny. Like yesterday morning when Rob asked him what he was thinking about. He was not happy to hear that question. When pressed as to why he didn't like that question,
"Because you are a suspector", (a Sam word that means you are figuring out something that I was trying to be sneaky about).
So, what was he thinking about that he wanted to keep hidden? It seems that once when he was little and we had a yard sale he snuck out and took back a couple of books we were trying to get rid of and hid them in his room.
He also has a fantastic way with words. He is quite fascinated with the phrases like 'the cat got your tongue'. I'm not sure how he puts the meanings together for things like that but the other day he said something to Rob but he didn't get an answer. I told him that Daddy hadn't heard him and Sam asked,
"Why? Has the rabbit got his ears?"
He is also a fanatic about light switches being turned the right way...down means the light is off and up means it's on. He shares a jack and jill bathroom though that has switches by either door. And he is convinced that Sarah deliberately turns the light off the wrong way so randomly he'll go to the bathroom and you'll hear,
"SARAH! I am serious about this!"
He has moments when he sounds just like Charlie Brown. But there are times when you can close your eyes and you'd swear that Shaggy from Scooby Do was in the living room. Because he's ten and a boy he will sometimes smell like a ten year old boy and the other day Rob was showing him how to put on deodorant. There is no way to do the conversation justice so I'm not even gonna try but it was the Shaggy voice, questions about whether Dad was going to shave him and being tickled by the deodorant.
The other thing about Sam is that he loves babies. And for the most part they tend to love Sam. Last Friday he was with me when I met up with our niece from Rob's side to take pictures of her youngest that is about to turn one. He helped us get some really great smiles and in the end had cake and icing all over him from carrying her around while we cleaned up.
I love children's photography so I may have to turn him into a regular assistant :-)

And, how adorable is Katelyn?

Ok, so I love this post- totally cracked me up this morning! A few Sam-isms are in our family's repertoire. But I was kind of hoping for a picture of Sam covered in icing. :)
