To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony.

Comfort, Yes Comfort My People

Rob is doing his father's funeral today. They found out last night that the Navy doesn't provide a chaplain. An odd situation became even more surreal. Sometimes when we're alone, away from our people, away from those like us the dark may seem to crowd in. But it never drowns out the light. Death does not take life when life is hidden in Christ. No matter how hard or uncomfortable we may feel we look up ahead to the Author and Finisher of our faith. And we firmly hold forth the Light that has been entrusted to us...even a single light offers sight when everything else is dark. And once, once we walked in darkness and now we give what has been given to us...our Comfort, our peace, our mercy.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
