To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony.

I can't stand it...I can't understand it. The pictures and the stories coming out of China following the violent earthquake are devastating. Fathers and mothers having to be held back while rescue workers work feverishly to try and save children from collapsed schools. A body is pulled out and the rush to identify leads to either a bittersweet feeling of relief and fear because it wasn't your child yet another family...a freind or neighbor...falls under the crushing weight of grief.
To make matters worse the one child law that has been in effect since 1979 means that for most of them they aren't losing a child...they are losing their only child.
As a human seeing their plight is awful. As a mother it is beyond my ability to comprehend.
