To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony.

Summer Fun

School is out for most kids. I say most because we school year round for several reasons:
1.) When brains are not used for three months they fall out.
2.) Children that are bored are at higher risk for injury...either because they get creative or mother's who are tired of the "I'm bored" whine get creative.
3.) We like to take days off through out the year when it suits us...this way I don't have to be concerned that we'll fall behind.
We are however taking this week off to celebrate successful evaluations...thanks Ms. Adriane, our evaluator extraordinaire. Sarah is entering the seventh grade...and Emily is going into second grade. (Sam & Abby will officially start in the fall...more on that another time.)

Last week having the neighborhood kids home really did great things for our schooling and chores. The kids couldn't wait to start because they couldn't wait to get done and go play. So one afternoon the kids & their friends were over playing in the backyard...all sorts of wet, messy fun.
